Beaumont Park
In the heart of the city, Beaumont Park spreads its lawns, flowerbeds and small lake around the palace of the same name. You pass ducks, couples reading and children on the loose. The flowered paths invite leisurely strolling, and bandstands host concerts and impromptu picnics. An ideal setting for a relaxed first date, away from the main streets.
The castle gardens and the river
Around Henri IV’s castle, the terraced gardens, laid out under Louis-Philippe, offer a splendid view over the Gave de Pau. Paths wind down to the banks, where nature grows wilder. The nearby national stud farm reveals its lines of stable boxes and sport horses: an original walk that makes a change from a café and delights animal lovers.
Towards the Jurançon hillsides
A few minutes from the centre, the Jurançon hillsides rise gently among vines and orchards. From the heights, the view embraces the city and the summits. On the south side, the leisure park and Lac des Carolins offer water sports and shaded trails. On Lyad, members from Pau share their favourite routes; it is up to you to pick someone to lace up your trainers with or extend the walk on a terrace.
